Maritime Crime Hits Record Low Since 1994, But Crew Safety Still at Risk

From January to September, 62 vessels had been boarded, six had been hijacked whereas 9 confronted tried assaults and two had been fired upon. In 86 per cent of incidents, perpetrators efficiently gained entry to the vessel with most incidents occurring at evening.

Violence in direction of crewmembers stays regarding, with 111 crew taken hostage, 11 kidnapped and three threatened. Perpetrators had been armed with weapons, weapons, and knives in 45 of the reported incidents.
