An exhibition of ship fashions depicting vessels constructed by Ailsa Shipbuilding Firm (Troon and Ayr) within the nineteenth and twentieth centuries opens on the Scottish Maritime Museum on Irvine Harborside at the moment (Friday, February 21).
The gathering of six detailed ‘builder’s fashions’, that are on long-term mortgage from South Ayrshire Council, have been crafted by the Ailsa Shipbuilding Firm’s model-making division between 1909 and 1975.
The vessels depicted embrace a 10-gun brig constructed to grab unlawful slaver ships within the nineteenth century, steamers destined for Brazil, a Mexican Navy patrol vessel, a ferry commissioned by the corporate that pioneered the roll-on roll-off ferry after World Conflict II, and an anti-submarine frigate inbuilt 1943.
The fashions, displayed within the Museum’s Linthouse alongside new interpretations created by the curatorial crew, have been delivered by the earlier stewards, Troon Neighborhood Council.
