A seaside nourishment mission is scheduled to start in September on an almost two-mile (3.2-kilometre) stretch of Galveston Island’s west finish in Texas. The mission is a partnership between the Texas Basic Land Workplace (GLO), the Metropolis of Galveston, and the US Military Corps of Engineers (USACE).
The work, to be carried out by contractor Nice Lakes Dredge and Dock Firm, will place “beach-quality” dredged materials from the Galveston Ship Channel onto the shoreline between Sunbather Lane and 11-Mile Street. Metropolis Supervisor Brian Maxwell acknowledged that the mission is important, with erosion charges within the space, “approaching seven toes per 12 months”.
