Sweden is proposing laws to extend safety within the Baltic Sea by increasing its coast guard’s potential to conduct maritime surveillance, the Nordic nation’s defence ministry mentioned on Friday.
The Baltic Sea area is on heightened alert following a string of undersea cable and fuel pipeline outages within the years following Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine, in addition to current drone sightings and airspace violations.
