It is a <strong>three-step verification<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Prove the tester works<\/strong> (on a known live source)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Test the circuit<\/strong> (all phases, to earth and between phases)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Prove the tester again<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Skipping step 1 or 3 invalidates the result.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Induced voltage: the killer on ships<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Shipboard cabling often runs:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>in parallel trays<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>through steel structures<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>near live HV feeders<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This creates <strong>electromagnetic induction<\/strong>. Investigation found:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>voltage tested once, not re-proven<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>cable not earthed during work<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>capacitive charge reappeared after testing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The injury occurred <strong>minutes after isolation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why ETOs rush this step \u2014 and shouldn\u2019t<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Testing feels repetitive.<br>Pressure exists to \u201cget on with it\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But testing is the <strong>last barrier between procedure and physics<\/strong>.
