The order was booked in Q1 2026, with delivery and installation planned for July 2027.

Meyer Turku Oy is one of the world’s leading builders of complex cruise ships and special vessels, with a shipbuilding tradition in Turku spanning nearly 300 years. The new crane will be installed at the outfitting quay, where vessels are moved after leaving the dry dock to be completed and finalized for delivery.

The crane has a maximum lifting capacity of 50 tons and offers variable outreach configurations extending to 75 meters, giving Meyer Turku the reach and headroom needed to outfit larger, more complex vessels. Both main and auxiliary hoists are included to cover the full range of lifting tasks during the outfitting phase.

To enable operation on the shipyard’s existing rail infrastructure — originally built for smaller cranes — the crane is fitted with a high number of wheels. The crane is also equipped with TRUCONNECT Remote Monitoring, supporting proactive maintenance through real-time data on usage and condition.

The new crane replaces two older jib cranes originally delivered by Konecranes in the 1970s which will be reassigned to other duties within the shipyard. The order builds on a long relationship between Konecranes and Meyer Turku, with the companies recently signing a four-year service agreement covering approximately 200 cranes across the shipyard in 2025.

“Meyer Turku Shipyard has delivered some of the largest cruise ships in operation today, including their newest Icon Class vessels, and their rigorous performance requirements continually challenge us to stay at the forefront of developing reliable, high‑quality solutions for shipyards worldwide,” says Justus Dahlén, Director, Shipyard Cranes, Industrial Equipment, Konecranes.

“Konecranes has been a reliable partner for decades, and the strong performance of their cranes and service made our final selection easy. Cranes are a crucial part of our internal logistics and a core element of the shipyard’s productivity. We rely on them every day to keep our operations moving efficiently, and we are confident that this new crane will further strengthen our capabilities as we take on ever more challenging shipbuilding projects,” says Ville Saksi, Deputy CEO, Meyer Turku.

A strong focus on customers, commitment to business growth, and continuous improvement make Konecranes a material handling industry leader. This is underpinned by investments in digitalization and technology, as well as efforts to make material flows more efficient with solutions that support the decarbonization of the economy and advance circularity and safety.

hellenicshippingnews…

 Source:
hellenicshipping

Konecranes to deliver single-boom shipyard crane to Meyer Turku in Finland
in
Shipbuilding News
24/04/2026
Konecranes has received an order for a fully erected single-boom shipyard crane from Meyer Turku Oy in Turku, Finland.
