$13 Billion Commonwealth LNG Project Gets Green Light in Louisiana<\/p>\n
Caturus\u00a0announced Friday it has reached final investment decision (FID) on the long-delayed 9.5 million tonnes per annum (mtpa)\u00a0Commonwealth LNG\u00a0export terminal in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, backed by $9.75 billion in project financing and more than $21 billion in total capital commitments.<\/p>\n
The roughly $13 billion project marks one of the largest<\/p>\n
developments approved this year and further cements America\u2019s position as the world\u2019s dominant LNG supplier.<\/p>\n
The Commonwealth facility is expected to begin operations in 2030 and will have the capability to load LNG carriers up to 216,000 cubic meters. Long-term offtake agreements have already been secured with a roster of major global counterparties including\u00a0EQT,\u00a0Glencore,\u00a0Mercuria,\u00a0PETRONAS\u00a0and\u00a0Aramco Trading.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis landmark occasion \u2026 is the culmination of years of strategic planning, strong partnerships and commitment to delivering a fully integrated \u2018wellhead-to-water\u2019 project,\u201d said\u00a0Ben Dell, managing partner of\u00a0Kimmeridge\u00a0and chairman of Commonwealth LNG.<\/p>\n
The project is central to Caturus\u2019 strategy of building a vertically integrated gas platform spanning upstream production through LNG exports. The company said it now produces more than 1 billion cubic feet equivalent per day following its recent acquisition of Galvan Ranch assets from\u00a0SM Energy.<\/p>\n
The financing group includes existing investors\u00a0Mubadala Energy\u00a0and\u00a0CPP Investments, alongside funding from\u00a0BlackRock,\u00a0Ares Management\u00a0and EOC Partners.<\/p>\n
Engineering and construction work will be led by\u00a0Technip Energies, which has already begun procurement of major long-lead equipment. The terminal will use Baker Hughes LM9000 gas turbines, Honeywell cryogenic heat exchangers, and Solar Turbines power generation systems.<\/p>\n
The FID comes amid a broader acceleration in U.S. LNG expansion. The United States exported roughly 111\u2013112 million metric tons of LNG in 2025, making it the<\/p>\n
first country ever to exceed 100 million metric tons annually<\/p>\n
and widening its lead over\u00a0Qatar\u00a0and\u00a0Australia\u00a0in global LNG exports.<\/p>\n

The latest investment also reflects continued confidence in long-term LNG demand despite growing geopolitical volatility surrounding global energy shipping routes, including ongoing disruptions in the\u00a0Strait of Hormuz\u00a0and the prolonged rerouting of cargoes around the\u00a0Suez Canal.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis pragmatic approach allows the company to have direct oversight and accountability for exploration and production of natural gas, as well as liquefaction capabilities to market LNG for export,\u201d the company said.<\/p>\n
