{"id":53842,"date":"2026-05-21T22:25:10","date_gmt":"2026-05-21T21:25:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/maritimehub.co.uk\/?p=53842"},"modified":"2026-05-21T22:25:10","modified_gmt":"2026-05-21T21:25:10","slug":"first-training-course-for-electric-propelled-vessels-gains-mca-seal-of-approval","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/maritimehub.co.uk\/first-training-course-for-electric-propelled-vessels-gains-mca-seal-of-approval\/","title":{"rendered":"First training course for electric-propelled vessels gains MCA seal of approval"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>First training course for electric-propelled vessels gains MCA seal of approval<\/p>\n<p>The first training course tailor-made for seafarers operating the UK\u2019s growing fleet of electric-propelled vessels has been given the seal of approval by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA).<\/p>\n<p>South Shields Marine School, South Tyneside, has become the first training provider to receive approval for delivering the Approved Electric Propulsion Course (AEPC1).<\/p>\n<p>The teaching will be based on official criteria provided by the MCA, created in consultation with industry and academia, to ensure the inclusion of vital safety and technical knowledge.<\/p>\n<p>MCA Chief Examiner Ajit Jacob said: \u201cCongratulations to South Shields Marine School for breaking new ground with the UK\u2019s first electric-propelled vessels course to be approved by the MCA.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlternative power, including electric, is becoming increasingly important to the maritime industry as it looks to become greener and more efficient and competitive.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTraining our seafarers in emerging technologies, including alternative fuels, is essential to supporting technological development and economic progress.
