General Dynamics Electric Boat Floats Out USS Idaho, Newest Virginia-Class Submarine

The submarine can even be the fifth US Navy ship to be named after the state of Idaho. As soon as in service, it should function in littoral and deep waters whereas conducting anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface ship warfare, strike warfare, particular operations forces help, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR), irregular warfare, and mine warfare missions.

GDEB is the prime contractor and lead design yard for the Virginia-class and constructs them in a teaming association with Huntington Ingalls Industries’ Newport Information Shipbuilding in Virginia.
