Illegal foreign fishing vessel destroyed off NT coast

The Australian Border Pressure (ABF) has intercepted and destroyed an unlawful overseas fishing vessel in waters off the Northern Territory coast. ​​​The interception is the primary below the brand new ABF-led, multi-agency taskforce Operation LUNAR, stood up this week to focus on the rise in unlawful overseas fishing detected within the space.

On Monday, December 9, ABF aerial surveillance patrols sighted the vessel earlier than officers responded and boarded the vessel north of Croker Island. Upon boarding, ABF officers seized 150 kilograms of salt (used for preserving catch) and an assortment of fishing gear. Fortuitously, the fishing vessel was intercepted previous to endeavor intensive fishing, limiting the affect on Australia’s marine assets.
