Japan’s Mogami-class is clearly your best option for Australia’s general-purpose frigate program.
In contrast with its very succesful competitor, the Meko A-200 from Germany, the Mogami design wants a smaller crew, provides deeper magazines, and has a more recent system for fight management.
The venture, Sea 3000, is meant to switch the Anzac-class general-purpose frigates with as many as 11 ships, half of a bigger program to increase the Royal Australian Navy’s floor fleet.
TKMS’s Meko A-200 and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries’ Mogami-class are the shortlisted contenders. Australia plans to order three ships of the chosen design from the successful contractor’s shipyard, taking first supply in 2029, and construct the remaining regionally. A call is predicted this yr.
