Nerthus – Danish operator’s new cross-strait ferry boasts hybrid electric propulsion

The ferry has a size of 116.8 metres (383.2 toes), a beam of 18.2 metres (59.7 toes), a draught of three.2 metres (10 toes), a deadweight of 600, and house for 600 passengers and as much as 188 autos.

The propulsion association consists of Echandia air-cooled batteries with a complete output of three.1 MWh, Danfoss everlasting magnet motors and 4 Schottel SRE 270 900kW azimuthing thrusters housing fixed-pitch propellers, whereas 4 Scania 493ekW turbines powered by hydrogenated vegetable oil will function backups for the batteries.

The batteries can ship a service velocity of 17.5 knots.
