Every ASEAN member state has a job to play in guaranteeing the South China Sea is a “sea of peace and commerce”, Amran stated, including tentative progress has been made in the direction of making a code of conduct with China, which claims sovereignty over many of the strategic waterway.
The South China Sea, a conduit for about $3 trillion of annual ship-borne commerce, has been the positioning of heated standoffs prior to now two years between ASEAN member the Philippines and China, a serious supply of the area’s commerce and funding.
