CAIRO, July 14 (Reuters) – Yemen’s Houthis stated on Sunday they’d carried out two navy operations, one within the Gulf of Aden and one in Eilat on the southern tip of Israel.
Houthi navy spokesperson Yahya Saree stated the group had focused the Israeli ship MSC UNIFIC within the Gulf of Aden with ballistic missiles and drones along with attacking navy targets in Eilat with drones.
The spokesperson stated that the most recent Houthi navy operations got here in response to the Israeli airstrike on Khan Younis on Saturday, an assault which claimed the lives of at the least 90 Palestinians and wounded 300 others, in response to the Gaza Well being Ministry.
Individually, the U.S. Central Command stated in a press release on Sunday that it has “destroyed two Iranian-backed Houthi uncrewed aerial autos (UAV) over the Crimson Sea and one uncrewed floor vessel (USV) within the Crimson Sea,” in addition to “one Houthi UAV in a Houthi-controlled space of Yemen.“
“It was decided these methods introduced an imminent menace to U.S., coalition forces, and service provider vessels within the area,” U.S. Central Command added.
Since November, Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi group has been launching drone and missile strikes in transport lanes within the Crimson Sea and Gulf of Aden. The group says these actions are in solidarity with Palestinians affected by Israel’s struggle in Gaza.
In dozens of assaults, the Houthis have sunk two vessels, seized one other and killed at the least three seafarers.
