
US President Donald Trump has nominated the vice commander of Particular Operations Command, Lieutenant Normal Frank Donovan, to steer the US navy’s Southern Command overseeing US troops in Latin America after the earlier commander retired early.
Reuters first reported Trump’s deliberate nomination of Donovan final week.
Admiral Alvin Holsey retired two years early at a ceremony in Miami final Friday, amid rising tensions with Venezuela that embrace final week’s seizure of an oil tanker and almost 30 lethal strikes on drug-smuggling boats.
