Two Decades of Injustice: Looking Back at George Smith’s Disappearance

George Smith disappeared over twenty years in the past on July 5, 2005, from Royal Caribbean’s Brilliance of the Seas. What adopted was a mishandled crime scene, a household denied solutions, and a case that compelled the general public to see how little accountability exists at sea.

George Smith was on a honeymoon cruise along with his newlywed bride, Jennifer Hagel, who we later represented on behalf of Mr. Smith’s property towards the cruise line over his disappearance. The couple was consuming late within the night time when Mr. Smith returned to his room with 4 males he met that night time. The boys have been the final to see him.

The cruise line lined up the disappearance and put the blame on Mr. Smith, claiming he probably fell overboard by chance after smoking. The proof says in any other case. Blood was present in his cabin and one of many 4 males final seen with Mr. Smith was later recorded mocking him saying “we gave that man a paragliding lesson with out a parachute.“

My opinion in regards to the case has not modified over twenty years. There was nothing unintentional about George Smith’s disappearance. The best thriller about this tragedy is just not what occurred to George Smith; it’s why the FBI shut its investigation down and why the Division of Justice didn’t arrest these accountable way back.

I’ve written extensively in regards to the disappearance in a 2011 Collection:

The case continues to draw nationwide consideration. CBS re-aired its 48 Hours episode Homicide at Sea? on September thirteenth, greater than twenty years after George’s disappearance.
