Indian project developer CIST Technology plans to supply bio-methanol and green ammonia for bunkering in ports in India and Singapore from its proposed facility in Maharashtra, the company told ENGINE.
CIST is planning to build an integrated bio-methanol and green ammonia facility in Palghar, India through its arm, Yoki Green Energy.
Palghar is a coastal district in the western Indian state of Maharashtra along the Arabian Sea coastline. The district is set to host the deepwater Vadhavan port, approved by the Indian government in 2024.
The Palghar facility will combine biomass gasification and electrolyser capacity to produce 200,000 mt/year of bio-methanol and 100,000 mt/year of green ammonia, CIST co-founder Suyash Agrawal told ENGINE.
Green hydrogen production and biogenic CO2 capture will be integrated onsite, and renewable power will be procured from a local supplier, Agra

Lloyd’s Register drives new push to standardise container stowage data with launch of LXF Consortium

Lloyd’s Register (LR) has helped establish a new industry consortium aimed at ending the fragmented way container stowage and lashing data is shared across the sector.
The Lashing Exchange Format (LXF) Consortium brings together major classification societies and key software developers to create a common digital standard for transferring data used in container securing arrangements and lashing calculations.
Stowage plans and lashing software are closely connected yet often treated as separate workflows because the industry has no standardised way to move information between systems.
Currently, container securing designers, lashing software providers and class societies all work from their own datasets to approve securing arrangements, but with no agreed format.
This disconnect often leads to duplicated work, inconsistent inputs and delays in th

South Korea has preliminarily selected shipping company Panstar Line to operate the country’s first trial container voyage along Russia’s Northern Sea Route (NSR), marking a significant step in Seoul’s ambitions to
expand its role in Arctic shipping
and develop alternative trade corridors between Asia and Europe.
The selection follows a public tender issued on April 27 by the Korea Ocean Business Corporation (KOBC) and the Korea Shipping Association (KSA) seeking an operator for a 3,000 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) Arctic test voyage. Panstar Line was the sole bidder and has been preliminarily chosen for the project. The company operates container services between South Korea, Japan, and China.
Under the plan, the vessel will depart from Busan, transit Russia’s Arctic corridor with a stop in Tromsø, continue to Rotte

A favourable tax regime, digitally enabled administration and a business culture fostering maritime growth are attracting more – and younger – ships to the Estonian Flag.
Launched in 2020, a comprehensive package of amendments to shipping law has been the basis for successive governments to drive expansion across Estonia’s maritime economy. Through a blend of tax incentives and user-friendly processes, the Estonian Flag has emerged as a key pillar for growth, attracting substantial tonnage in a highly competitive market.
An initiative of the Estonian Transport Administration, the EST Flag is also a brand aimed at increasing visibility of the benefits of flying the Estonian flag, promoting the interests of the Estonian ship register, and strengthening international cooperation across the maritime sector. The Estonian shipping registers comprise two b

The World Maritime University (WMU) and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) have released a new Handbook on Gender Mainstreaming in the Maritime Sector, calling for action to address persistent gender inequality across the global maritime industry.
The handbook, authored by WMU Professor Momoko Kitada, was launched on the International Day for Women in Maritime on 18 May. Professor Kitada is also the recipient of the 2026 IMO Gender Equality Award.
The publication is the first of its kind, aimed at closing the gender gap in the maritime sector, where women account for just 1% of the world’s seafaring workforce and hold only 19% of ministerial roles responsible for maritime affairs.
The new handbook was launched as part of an event held at IMO headquarters in London to mark the International Day for Women in Maritime 2026.

EmissionLink, the integrated emissions management service, says FuelEU compliance has moved beyond regulation to become a commercial optimisation challenge, after completing its first FuelEU Maritime pooling cycle with 90% of shipowners opting to pool.
EmissionLink has supported the compliance process for more than 600 vessels and helped clients navigate one of the most complex new regulatory frameworks facing the shipping industry, through its inaugural pooling submission.
The process was completed without disruption to clients and included the successful resolution of technical and regulatory issues, including complexities around ice-class vessels. This enabled participating companies to meet their obligations while retaining commercial flexibility and avoiding the pressure of last-minute, trader-led decision-making.
The first compliance cycle has already chan
