Diana Shipping Inc., a global shipping company specializing in the ownership and bareboat charter-in of dry bulk vessels that owns approximately 14.8% of the outstanding shares of common stock of Genco Shipping & Trading Limited (NYSE: GNK) (“Genco”), today called on the Genco Board of Directors (the “Genco Board”) to immediately announce the date of its 2026 Annual Meeting at which shareholders will have the opportunity to vote on important matters related to the future of their company.
Today, Genco filed its preliminary proxy statement — yet still has not announced an Annual Meeting date or set a record date. In fact, Genco has reserved, and communicated to brokers, three separate potential record dates for the Annual Meeting – April 4, April 28 and May 18, 2026 – but has not set one. In addition to confusing brokers and potential voters, reserving multiple record dates withou

South Korea’s Ulsan Port Authority said it has completed what it describes as the world’s first port-to-ship ammonia bunkering operation for a commercial vessel, marking a new step in shipping’s search for scalable zero-carbon fuels.
The bunkering operation took place April 23 at Pier 2 of Ulsan Main Port, where approximately 600 metric tons of clean ammonia were supplied to a 45,000-cubic-meter ammonia dual-fuel gas carrier built by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries. The fuel was delivered using a port-to-ship, or PTS, bunkering method by Lotte Fine Chemical, which has been designated as the demonstration operator for sustainable marine fuel supply at the port.
The demonstration adds ammonia to a growing list of alternativ

Japan: Inflation and labour market data complicate rate decision
Japanese data should indicate that inflationary pressures are intensifying, while the economy remains resilient. We expect labour market conditions to remain tight with the jobless rate edging down to 2.5%. Monthly activity data should rebound quite firmly, partially offsetting the previous month’s declines.

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, will expand the list of ports reflected in the Platts Market on Close assessment process for FOB Mediterranean 10 ppm gasoline cargoes (AAWZA00), effective May 20, to include Algeciras in Spain.
Following market feedback, Platts understands that Algeciras is an active production hub in the Mediterranean where a range of market participants operate. Refineries in these locations are known exporters in the region.
Platts will publish bids, offers and trades for gasoline cargoes loading FOB Algeciras in the MOC, in addition to the ports currently reflected. The assessment reflects cargoes loading FOB basis Santa Panagia Bay 10-25 days from the date of publication, with value normalized to reflect the mean value of the delivery period.
Loadings taking place in other Mediterranean locations may be considered in the MOC, and normalized back

The International Maritime Organization (IMO), the Africa Transport Policy Program (SSATP), and the World Bank, in partnership with the United Republic of Tanzania’s Ministry of Transport, convened a regional workshop in Dar es Salaam to accelerate the digitalization of ports across 12 African countries.
Opened by Minister of Transport Hon. Makame Mbarawa (MP) the five-day event (20 to 24 April) aimed to:
promote the adoption of the IMO Compendium on Facilitation and Electronic Business which sets out how shipping and port data is structured and shared electronically to streamline communication; and
scale up implementation of Maritime Single Windows (MSW) and Port Community Systems (PCS), which are integrated digital platforms that streamline vessel and cargo clearance, reduce bureaucratic delays, and strengthen Africa’s competitiveness in global maritime trade.

The market began the week with strong upward momentum, briefly pushing the BCI 182 5TC to the cusp of $39,000, supported primarily by strength in the Atlantic basin. Early gains were driven by a firm C3 market and a tightening ballaster list, particularly for May dates, while fronthaul activity provided a notable boost.
However, this initial strength proved difficult to sustain. Divergence between basins became increasingly apparent, with the Pacific coming under pressure as C5 rates trended down from the mid $13s to $13 levels despite consistent, albeit not aggressive, miner participation.

Readout from UCL Shipping and Oceans Research group shows IMO’s Intersessional working group on GHGs has made good progress on a range of important debates and guidelines, that all relate to the implementation of the IMO’s Net Zero Framework (NZF). If adopted, these guidelines provide the finer detail important for both the industry and member states to understand how the various components of the framework will operate in practice.
Relative to the implementation detail that was available in October 2025 at the MEPC Extraordinary Session meeting, at which a decision was made to adjourn/defer the adoption decision for 12 months, there is now a much better clarity of how the NZF could operationalise. This means there is now more mature evidence base from which to assess how the NZF will create

Ahead of this week’s meeting of the International Maritime Organization’s Marine Environment Protection Committee (IMO, MEPC 84, April 27-May 1), the Clean Shipping Coalition welcomed progress made during this week’s intersessional meeting and called on member states to “hold the line against those looking to once again disrupt and delay” on the IMO’s Net-Zero Framework (NZF).
The coalition is also calling for the meeting to expedite work on the revision of the IMO’s flag-ship energy efficiency measure, the Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII), for adoption of the North East Atlantic Emission Control Area, and for progress to be made on addressing the impact of plastic marine litter.
Net Zero Framework
The IMO’s Net-Zero Framework is aimed at reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from ships, in line with the 2023 GHG Strategy. The NZF includes a global fuel standard (

BRUSSELS/LONDON, April 24 (Reuters) – European Union countries agreed on Friday to keep pushing for a global price on shipping’s
CO2 emissions
in U.N. talks next week, setting up another potential clash with the United States over the proposal.
Governments at the International Maritime Organization decided last year to
postpone
the climate plan by a year, after the Trump administration
strongly opposed
the measure and threatened to impose sanctions and visa restrictions on delegates who supported it.
That has not stopped European countries attempting to revive the plan, according to the EU’s negotiating position for next week’s
IMO
talks, seen by Reuters.
