As European and international shipping emissions rules continue to expand, maritime technology companies Awake.AI and Tidalis have announced a partnership focused on emissions monitoring and reporting for ports and shipping companies. The collaboration links operational port-call data with existing maritime operational systems to support automated emissions reporting.
Awake.AI’s emissions monitoring software will be made available in combination with Tidalis’ vessel traffic services and port management systems used by ports, coastguards and maritime authorities worldwide. Shipping companies and ports are facing increasing reporting obligations linked to FuelEU Maritime, EU ETS and the IMO’s decarbonisation targets.
Under the agreement, Awake.AI’s Emission Monitor will be combined with operational data from Tidalis systems to turn port-call, vessel, fueling, cargo handling, shore power

The Sustainable Shipping Initiative (SSI) has released a new study, Alang in Transition: From Compliance to Capability, that builds on the substantial progress made in ship recycling safety within the region under the Hong Kong Convention (HKC) and signals the next phase of action needed to safely scale the industry. With 115 of 128 operational plots in the Alang-Sosiya cluster in Gujarat now HKC compliant, and recovery rates approaching 98% of vessel mass, the study finds the foundations are in place for the sector to go further by combining digital solutions and processes, whole-lifecycle accountability starting at vessel design, and investing further in the continuity of accumulated workforce knowledge at recycling facilities.
The research, supported by Lloyd’s Register, is grounded in a case study of Priya Blue Group’s HK

Posidonia has always been about relationships.
It is one of the few moments in the calendar where shipowners, managers, suppliers and partners can step away from day-to-day pressure and have more open, honest conversations. The setting is more relaxed, but the discussions themselves are often more revealing.
What is changing is the substance of those conversations.
In previous years, much of the focus was on connectivity. How to get ships online, how to improve bandwidth, how to support more digital tools onboard.

West of England P&I Club (West) is pleased to report another year of strong financial performance, underpinned by disciplined underwriting, robust capital management, and the continued trust and support of its Members.
The combined ratio for the 2025-26 financial year was 98.0%, an improvement on the prior year’s 103.9%. The Club’s own claims were below their expected position, and the share of Pool claims was close to the budgeted level, assisted by West’s recent positive Pool performance.
The Board’s primary operating performance measure, a three-year average combined ratio below 100%, has again been met at 98.8%, demonstrating consistent and strong technical performance.
West’s investment portfolio delivered a return of 7.9%, generating USD 65.0m, its strongest investment result in over ten years. With all asset classes contributing positively, this performance, together with the underwriting

On Wednesday, May 13th, Wilson Sons, a port and shipping logistics operator with over 188 years of experience, held the launch ceremony of WS Capella, the second tug of a new range of three high-powered tugboats.
Just like WS Halcyon, baptised in January this year, WS Capella was built at the company’s shipyard and is also an ASD 2312 class tug (23 metres long, 12 metres wide). With azimuth thrusters, 70-ton bollard pull, and capacity to handle the largest ships operating in Brazil during docking and undocking manoeuvres, the new vessel will operate in the Port of Santos, the largest port complex in Latin America. Its modern design allows for reduced fuel consumption, which directly contributes to lower emissions.

Steelpaint has completed a pivotal coating trial aboard the FSO Topaz, marking the company’s first official reference on a Floating Storage and Offloading (FSO) unit.
The project also represents a major entry point for its MCPU (single component moisture cure polyurethane) coating technology in the offshore energy market, providing a field-tested alternative to conventional coating systems.
A 100µm Stelpant-PU-Zinc primer and a 200µm Stelpant Combination 300 test patch was applied to the FSO’s chain deck, an area prone to extreme mechanical stress, heavy abrasion and extensive impact damage from anchor chains and containers.

ith VLSFO topping $1,000/mt in some ports, bunkers can represent up to 60% of total voyage costs[1]. A vessel burning just 5% above CP spec creates exposure that shipowners and operators only discover after the fixture is done.
This article breaks down the financial impact of underperformance, shows how AIS data can identify the gap before you commit to hiring a TC vessel, and gives you a calculator to model the exposure for your own fleet.
The hidden exposure in TC-in decisions
For most chartering teams, vessel selection still relies on CP specifications, class records, recent inspections, and broker-provided indications. Useful, but limited — none represent continuous, independently verified performance in operation.
Most TC-in decisions are still priced off CP specifications and recent perception rather than verified performance.

Delivering the keynote address at The Future of Gas and Hydrogen 3.0 international conference held in Ljubljana, May 12, 2026, Mr Andrea Stegher – the President of the International Gas Union (IGU) – highlighted in his speech the unique position of Gas, in all its forms, to meet the delivery and innovation prerequisites of a solid and sustainable energy future.
“Innovation, supported by strong technical and scientific capabilities, is still central to our industry. Technically robust and future-proof energy innovations are happening every day, both when considering the “traditional” natural gas systems and the new frontiers of green and low-emission solutions.
Full-scale digitalisation, AI to improve efficiency, a variety of technologies to reduce emissions and many others, are today’s features of our industry. And innovation is also happening with gaseous mol
